THE LADY JANIES BOOK TAG // We made a tag and I am screaming!

My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies, #2)

So, My Plain Jane is coming out on the 26th and I am screaming. I have been wanting to make more original content lately and I’ve wanted to create more posts that I can properly share with you guys and then Rebecca came into my life like a shining bookish angel. We wanted to celebrate one of our most anticipated releases of the year; My Plain Jane, the companion sequel to My Lady Jane. And so we created The Lady Janies Book Tag! I hope you guys will all get excited with us and hopefully join in and do this tag too!

JANE LYNCH: A favourite book featuring a character on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum

a havenEvery Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)   People Like Us   Wild Beauty   The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I don’t know that I really have a favourite lgbtqia+ book (there are too many amazing books to choose from) but, these are some of the most recent ones I’ve read that I’ve loved! I’ve tried to add books from different genres to my list and I think these have all been really fun!

LADY JANE GREY: A short book that packed a punch

The Giver (The Giver, #1)

This is one of my favourite books ever. The Giver hits me every time I read it. It’s like being hit by a truck and then run over by a bus of screaming children… but in a good way.

The Giver is really fun and really smart and I love it more each time I read it.

JANE AUSTEN: Favourite heroine in a classic book

Persuasion

I really want to be cliche and say Elizabeth Bennet but instead, I’m only going to be partially cliche and go with Anne Elliot from Persuasion by the Jane Austen. I could’ve said so many other characters like Meg Murry or Anne Shirley but, I think Anne is a more relatable character. Anne is strong and resilient but always copping the short end of the stick. She’s really sensible and always taking care of her family, but like all of us, she is also impressionable and easily persuaded (hence the title) but by the end of the book she develops as a character and comes into the world a better person.

Wow, I never realised how much I looked up to her until writing this.

JANE EYRE: Your favourite retelling

Lost Boy

Is this even a question at this point? Hi, if you’re new to my blog, my name is Ellyn, I am obsessed with Peter Pan and I have no shame.

Lost Boy is honestly one of my favourite reads of 2017 and by far the best retelling I have ever read and I don’t understand why more people haven’t read it. It’s basically the story of Peter Pan from the perspective of one of the Lost Boys. It also really highlights the bad sides of Peter Pan that you definitely don’t see in the Disney film, which is one of the reasons I love it.

CALAMITY JANE: Your most anticipated release

a havenEscaping from Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper #3)   My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies, #2)   Undying (Unearthed, #2)   The Mermaid

I mean, there are just so many. I think my top 2018 release would have to be Escaping From Houdini but, honestly, I am looking forward to so many good books this year!

JANE FONDA: A character who upholds feminist ideals

The Nowhere Girls

For this one, I’m going to go with the group of girls called The Nowhere Girls from the book of the same name. These girls are all amazing and the book is about them trying to find a voice and defend themselves in a town that doesn’t believe/& shames rape victims. It’s a really great book that gives a voice to women and shows how amazing we can be when we work together.

JANE KRAKOWSKI: An underrated book you wish more people would read

The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy, #1)

The Golden Door is amazing and you should go and read it right now. I know that I talk about this book a lot but it is honestly worth it! I re-read this trilogy every year or two and it never gets old. I love the characters and I love his unique and interesting the books are, it just makes me really happy whenever I read it!

THE LADY JANIES: Two or more authors you wish would write a book together

haven haven haven haven havenA Wrinkle in Time   Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)

We all have an author duo dream team. for a lot of people it’s Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli, but for me, hands down, it has to be Madeleine L’Engle & Seanan McGuire. I love their books and I think their book baby would be amazing! I love L’Engle’s writing and I think Seanan McGuire always writes really self-aware and interesting stories so combining their ideas would be amazing!

KISS MARRY CLIFF 2.0 // EXCEPT I DANGLE THE FATES OF ALL MY FAVES…

Hey Guys, today I’m coming at you with a not-so-new book tag! I was tagged by my bookish BFF, Rebecca from over @ Bookishlyrebecca to do the Kiss Marry Cliff tag. I did do this tag sometime last year and if you want to see me in more pain you can read that here.

I know that Rebecca did 10 rounds but I only did 5 this time because I didn’t want to make this post too long for you guys, I hope you enjoy it anyway guys!

arrowiconphoenixfeather

ROUND ONE

movies movies tbrStalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)   Batman: Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2)   The Martian

Thomas Cresswell, Bruce Wayne, Mark Watney

Kiss: I mean, there is absolutely no way in hell that I am passing up the opportunity to kiss Thomas Cresswell. I don’t need to marry him because obviously, Audrey-Rose is perfect for him.

Marry: I am totes ma goats marrying Mark Watney. This guy is amazing, I mean, he’s a botanist who managed to colonise and survive on Mars. He’s one of my favourite fictional characters of all time and honestly, I think if he was real and I actually got to meet him I would be a little starstruck.

Cliff: Sorry Bruce, but I have enough emotional baggage of my own, and I really don’t know how I would feel about being with a serial killer in the future so… it’s to the cliff you go!

ROUND TWO

movies movies tbrThe Diviners (The Diviners, #1)   Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)   These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

Evie O’Neill, Audrey-Rose Wadsworth, Tarver Merendsen

Kiss: Oh my gosh, this was actually so hard but I think I’m going to have to kiss Tarver He’s one of my favourites in the series (just below Lilac) but I think he is just too perfect with Lilac.

Marry: Picking between Tarver and Audrey-Rose was an honest to gosh hard decision, but I would be lying to myself if I didn’t pick Audrey-Rose over literally anyone else! She is one of my absolute favourites and she is a big part of why I love the Stalking Jack The Ripper series so much!

Cliff: I’m actually so sad to have to do this but Evie O’Neill is a goner! I think she’s a really complex and flawed character so I hate to do this but she is done for.

ROUND THREE

movies movies tbrHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)   Peter Pan (Illustrated with Interactive Elements)   The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1)

Rubeus Hagrid, Peter Pan, Kelsier

Kiss: Oh my god I kind of want to cliff all of them?? I guess I would kiss Peter because he’s twisted and all but he’s also a really interesting character? I do’t know, I guess I have a death wish.

Marry: If I marry Kelsier will I die???

Cliff: Look at me, cliffing one of my favourite characters of all time. Because I’m a ruthless badass (or I just really don’t want to kiss him ever). Sorry Hagrid, you don’t deserve half the sh*t you get in that series and look at me making it worse…

ROUND FOUR

movies movies tbrCaraval (Caraval, #1)   The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy, #1)   The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

Scarlett Dragna, Rye, Percy Jackson

Kiss: Oh my goodness, I guess I’ll be kissing Rye today. #NotEvenMad

Marry: This is kind of a no brainer for me? Percy Jackson is hilarious and one of my favourite bookish personalities so I’d be stupid not to marry him (and then divorce him becuse Annabeth is goals).

Cliff: I’m sorry Scarlett but you’re kind of a wet blanket at times and I really don’t think we would get along.

ROUND FIVE

movies movies tbrThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo   The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars, #1)   These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

Evelyn Hugo, Veronica Mars, Lilac Laroux

Kiss: I will be kissing the legendary Veronica Mars and I am honesly not even mad because she’s a babe.

Marry: Oh my God, I am so sorry Tarver, but I love Lilac Laroux and would gladly marry her. Without blinking. I would not even think about it. I would sign those forms and be the happiest gal on the block.

Cliff: Lol sorry Evelyn but I do not trust you in the slightest.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?

I have been blogging since June 1st of 2016. So, I’ve officially been blogging for just under 2 years. I know its cliché to say but, I honestly hadn’t realised I had been blogging for so long and time has just flown by so quickly, and that’s all due to you guys! (because you’re all awesome)

DO YOU ENJOY DOING TAGS?

I do enjoy doing tags, and I hope to create my own someday, but I definitely don’t do them as often as I could o maybe should on my blog. I just find that I am less creative when I do tags, and my blog is really the only place I have a creative space, so I guess I just do them less because I’m a snob and must always be at the centre of attention. *not really and am I writing sarcasm right? help me!*

DO YOU FOLLOW THE BLOGS THAT FOLLOW YOU?

Um… am I a bad blogger if I say no?

DESCRIBE YOUR BLOG IN 5 WORDS?

Recommendations. Anxiety. Honest. Aussie. Red.

HOW MANY POSTS HAVE YOU MADE ON YOUR BLOG? (not counting this tag!)

372. Oh. how time flies by! And, I can guarantee that at least half of those posts are not even worth your time because I was not a quality blogger™ back in the day and I don’t know how my OG followers even dealt with me.

ON A SCALE OF 1-10 HOW MUCH DO YOU ENJOY BLOGGING?

I think I’ll have to say the same as Zuky and go with 7.5

I love blogging (and sometimes blogging loves me) but, if I told you I wasn’t constantly stressed out about my blog and that I don’t sometimes stay up to 3 am because I’m anxious about my blog aesthetic then I would be lying. I am definitely proud of my blog (and myself) but, this is the second most anxiety-inducing thing in my life. Which is quite the achievement because, not to brag, but my life is a mess and I am an anxious heap 275% of the time.

WRITING OR READING BLOG POSTS?

It really depends on my mood, and I am one moody person so really I don’t know how anything gets done. Actually, I am pretty stubborn, so it’s probably that. Sometimes I will literally refuse to let myself get up until I finish my blog post/outline. You need to pee? Type faster!

Yup. I’m classy, don’t you know?

Honestly, though, it really does depend on the day and whether or not my brain wants to work with me. I will either bake 10 cakes, write 5 blog posts, finish a book and “sing” the entire Aladdin Musical soundtrack 30 times throughout the day, or I will sit on the couch, probably bake at least one cake and watch like, half an episode of The Office. I generally have to force myself to go through my reader though, because I guess I hate socialising or something, I don’t know.

3 QUOTES, 3 DAYS: DAY THREE

It’s day three! Are you relieved? Funnily enough, I’m not and I couldn’t be more grateful to Rebecca & Malanie for tagging me in this. I’ve never been one for quotes or the aesthetic of them but this tag has really made me appreciate them and the author who wrote or said them. So without further ado, here is my quote for the last day of the tag!

Today I’m putting the light on another quote, though it doesn’t come from a book. I thought since my last two quotes have been directy from the page I would change it up with a verbal quote, this time from one of the most famous authors in our history!

Miss Jane Austen had this to say about the importance of tea in her life. Might you feel the same?

JANE AUSTEN! While I have yet to read all of her works, I am making an effort to read more classics this year even though I haven’t started Uni yet. I really love this quote because it pretty much sums me up – if it’s a good and productive day you can bet I’m drinking some tea. This is especially fitting for me at the moment as it is definitely that aesthetic tea-reading time of year in Australia – it hasn’t stopped raining all week and so, naturally I haven’t stopped reading!

This quote was inevitable because it just makes sense – this is such a relatable quote – it discusses humanity and what it means to be human in such a frank way that it’s not hard to look at yourself after reading it. This quote just promotes discussion and I love it!

Sirius Black

I think that there are so many fantastic quotes in the Harry Potter books – I mean hell, there are seven books. But, this one is definitely my favourite – you can’t help but really take a good hard look at yourself after reading it.

Funnily enough, writing this post has really reminded me that I have never tagged and highlighted any of my copies of HP!

Zeus

ZEUS – King of the Gods: your favourite book

Wow, what a way to start a book tag! No pressure or anything!

I don’t think I have an overall favourite book but these are my top 2, in fact just thinking about it I think I might make a post about my top 5 favourites.

adsadsadsdividerarrowleftfeatureThe Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy #1) The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1)dividerarrowrightfeature

The Golden Door // The Final Empire

These are two of my favourite fantasy books, I was going to talk about my favourite contemporary novel as well but this was supposed to be a single book answer and I’m already cheating.

The Golden Door is that book I read when I was 12 and I loved it but never really appreciated how ingenious it was and so didn’t continue the trilogy. But then I picked it up again randomly 4 years later and boy, was my mind blown! The Doors trilogy is probably my favourite trilogy of all time. Crazy, right?

And then we have The Final Empire, who hasn’t heard of this book. TFE is probably my favourite first book in a series. I cannot not praise these books, so I urge you guys to pick them up. I know The Golden Door is middle grade and that TFE is terrifyingly large but they are soo worth it!

Hera

HERA – Queen of the Gods: A badass female character

adsadsadsdividerarrowleftfeatureThe Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) My Lady Janedividerarrowrightfeature

Percy Jackson // My Lady Jane

Annabeth Chase (PJO) and Lady Jane Grey (MLJ). If you have read these books you cannot sit there and tell me that these ladies are not badass. With Annabeth it’s a given, she’s more badass then half of Camp Half-Blood put together (okay, that’s an exaggeration but you get the point). And then there’s Jane, at first she’s just a bookworm who just wants to read but as the story goes on she really stands up for herself and at one point I’m pretty sure she’s fighting people off with a pan, Tangled style.

Janus

JANUS – God of Beginnings: Your favourite debut(s)

ssdividerarrowleftfeatureSimon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda First & Then Charm & Strangedividerarrowrightfeature

Simon VTHA // First & Then // Charm & Strange

I love all of these books but I think that Simon is definitely my favourite, in fact I would go as far  as to say Simon is my favourite contemporary novel, that being said I haven’t read Albertalli’s new novel yet.

First & Then is also a really cool novel, it’s a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and I LOVE it! It’s a really light and fun read that I totally recommend if you’re ever in a reading slump.

Charm & Strange is definitely not a readathon or reading slump read, it’s something you need to be focused on and you really need to be in the right mood to read. You really do need to be prepared for a really heavy plot and you should probably have some tissues on standby.

Athena

ATHENA – Goddess of Wisdom: Your favourite non-ficton book

adsdsadsadsadsadsdividerarrowleftfeatureEating Animalsdividerarrowrightfeature

Eating Animals

This book is seriously amazing. This is the book that got me into non-fiction, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Aphrodite

APHRODITE – Goddess of Love: A book you adore and recommend everyone read (other than your favourite book!)

Uggghhh, I really want to recommend The Golden Door but I’ve already used it! 😭

dividerarrowleftfeatureAmazing X-Men, Volume 1: The Quest for NightcrawlerAll the Truth That's in Me Fahrenheit 451dividerarrowrightfeature

Amazing X-Men Vol 1 // All The Truth That’s In Me // Fahrenheit 451

If you are a comic lover like myself, than you should totally pick up Amazing X-Men, it’s a really fun pirate filled volume and you guys should definitely pick it up!

I haven’t read All The Truth That’s In Me in years but I do know that I started it on a whim at like 1am a few years ago and was up until 6 finishing it! It’s a really intense and hard-hitting novel so I would recommend not starting it at 1am but it is a really amazzing read (again, have tissues on standby).

And then there’s Fahrenheit 451, the book that everyone knows about and everyone says you shoudl read. But for real, you should read this.

Hades

HADES – God of the Underworld: An evil book you wish didn’t exist

addsdividerarrowleftfeatureCity of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1) Look Who's Backdividerarrowrightfeature

TMI // Carve The Mark // Look Who’s Back

Okay, so I know that basically everyone loves The Mortal Instruments but I hate it.  I absolutely cannot stand this series, I completely detest the characters and honestly I don’t like talking about it – basically the show is 1000x better.

Carve The Mark is a given. I will never read this. And now folks, let me tell you about Look Who’s Back, a lovely comedy about Hitler coming back and living in the 21st century. Because who wouldn’t want to read this, right?

Poseidon

POSEIDON – God of the Sea & Earthquakes: A beautiful & ground-breaking book

Originally I didn’t have an answer for this question. I wasn’t sure if it meant ground breaking for everyone or just me. And I wasn’t sure I had even read any books I thought were ground breaking.

But then I really thought about it, and I think that Eating Animals definitely had an impact on me.

assdasdasdasdasasddividerarrowleftfeatureEating Animalsdividerarrowrightfeature

Eating Animals

I know it’s a repeat but it’s honestly the only book I could think of. I loved this book, and I wasn’t even expecting to make it through the first chapter, I am not a non-fiction reader and this really got me interested in the genre. Also, just the topic this book is on is really eye-opening and I really think everyone should read it, or at least think about why someone would spend years researching and writing this book.

Apollo

APOLLO – God of the Arts: A beautiful book cover

adsadsadsdividerarrowleftfeatureHenry Hoey Hobson The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo, #1)dividerarrowrightfeature

Henry Hoey Hobson // The Trials of Apollo

Look at these books and try to tell me you don’t love the covers. These books, along with the covers are amazing! HHH is one of my favourite middle grade reads and The Hidden Oracle is a new favourite of mine!

Hypnos

HYPNOS – God of Sleep: A book so boring you almost fell asleep

addsadsadsdividerarrowleftfeatureFinnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1) 172 Hours on the Moondividerarrowrightfeature

Finnikin of The Rock // 172 Hours

Aaaah, these two books, on one hand you’ve got the high fantasy that will have you falling asleep and on the other hand you have the horror that is so predictable you will literally see everything coming because you’ve seen it all before.

Hermes

HERMES – Messenger of the Gods: A book you sped through

I really want to say Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda but I already used that.

adasdasdasdasdasddividerarrowleftfeatureAnya's Ghostdividerarrowrightfeature

Anya’s Ghost

This is a short graphic novel, Anya’s Ghost is a really realistic depiction of a young girl in high school. She doesn’t fit in at school and then one day she stumbles upon a friend only there’s something not so right.
